It has been announced that Deviantart will be closing down due to lawsuits over child pornography, that is available to under 13s on the site.

The decision came as of today, as over 4, 756, 902 complaints from parents, members, employers, work colleagues and school staff have been filed in the past five years.

Although the majority of unsuitable material was due to teenagers who had also registered on MySpace, other material influenced the agreement. Chain letters telling children how to commit suicide, and clubs for drug addicts if they wanted to sell, share and buy.

It has also been found that an admin, unnamed due to legal reasons, once told a girl to kill herself on the forums and then removed the evidence from the site.

Because the risk of injuries, encouraged self harm, drug abuse and unsuitable actions from the site was just so high, and could be easily accessed by any child registered on Deviantart, it had been agreed that the site be shut down.

Unfortunately it will be a blow to 'deviants' who wanted to further their art careers, but it's been agreed that precautions are necessary.
